OAK BAY

The VREB district of Oak Bay corresponds to the municipal District of Oak Bay.

From its kilometres of scenic coastline with breathtaking foreshore vistas to its luxury apartments and stately mansions, Oak Bay is one of the most desirable residential areas in Greater Victoria. Architecture ranges from the late 19th century style of pre-eminent architects such as Francis Rattenbury and Samuel Maclure to the contemporary West Coast style of today.

Oak Bay is home to two golf courses, the Uplands Golf Club and Victoria Golf Club. The Oak Bay Marina and the Royal Victoria Yacht Club cater to the boating crowd. Henderson Recreation Centre, Oak Bay Recreation Centre and Monterey Centre are popular with all members of the family. Its main shopping areas, Oak Bay Avenue and Estevan, maintain a village-like atmosphere. The professional businesses are tucked in here with the commercial businesses. There no big-box and hardly any franchise stores.

Oak Bay shares the University of Victoria with the neighbouring municipality of Saanich. There are many parks to enjoy. Uplands Park runs along the water at Cattle Point and then goes up into the forest with wildflower fields in between. There are more rare and endangered plants in that park than in any other municipal park in the Victoria area. Willows Beach is probably the best know beach in Victoria for swimming in the salt water. The sandy beach helps draw in the crowds whenever the sun comes up and emits a bit of warmth.

The VREB district of Oak Bay, part of the Core region, is sub-divided into 6 neighbourhoods. Look at the VREB website to see more details on the neighbourhoods.
